Similar to the configuration of Azores, a cluster of three adjacent islands, we designed three pavilions named the Portas de Arte for the Walk & Talk Art Festival float in São João Square as gateways to art. Built with local Japanese cedar wood using Azores’ traditional ship building technique, the pavilions take their arch form from Portas da Cidade. The three pavilions utilize the arch form in different ways for three main functions of the communal loggia, the service bar, and the performance stage. They are placed to create a welcoming and intimate courtyard for the art community.
